CANUp telematics gateway

CANUp telematics gateway – multi-functional telematics unit used in advanced machinery telematics systems. Advanced machinery – mobile and stationary objects, which have many operation monitoring points: engines, power generators, boilers, various additional equipment and other assemblies.

Core features of CANUp telematics gateway:

  • reading over 10,000 machine operation parameters, thus the gateway can be adapted for different machinery types,
  • automatic parsing of J1939/71 and ISOBUS messages,
  • registers “quick” parameters, which have 0.1-10 seconds step,
  • user notifications on Events over email and SMS,
  • generating Reports when Events are detected.

Event recognition is an important feature for implementing predictive maintenance approach and avoiding machinery breakdown.

CANUp areas of application

1. Vessel telematics and railroad machinery telematics

Vessels and railroad equipment monitoring implies using set of additional sensor and reading data from onboard digital interfaces and standard analog sensors.

CANUp telematics gateway simultaneously gets data from 16 fuel level sensors, 20 flow meters also more than hundred parameters from CAN J1939 data bus.

Additional sensors are connected over the wire – CAN J1939/S6 interface (S6 Technology), or over the air – BLE (S7 Technology).

 Agricultural machinery

2. Agricultural machinery telematics – parsing ISOBUS

ISOBUS – communication standard based on J1939/71, which is used in agricultural machines and equipment. ISOBUS contains special parameters of attached equipment allowing to evaluate equipment status, duration of emptying tanks, position angles, feeding speed, depth of immersion like: “Assembly Unit Identification”, “Dump Truck Body Information”, “Primary or Rear Hitch Roll and Pitch”,  “Auxiliary Valve 30 Flow”, “Secondary or Front Hitch Status” and other machinery-related parameters.

CANUp gateway makes automatic scanning and parsing of ISOBUS messages – that allows telematics technician to find necessary parameters and avoid loosing time on manual HEX-message parsing.

3. Power genset monitoring, boilers/heaters monitoring

When it comes to stationary object telematics, it’s very important to get information both on operation process and on machinery’s output performance. E.g. for diesel power generators – current and voltage of each of phases, reactive and real power, etc.

CANUp gets data from diesel genset controller over Modbus RTU interface through MasterCAN RS2CAN data converter. The data is combined with messages from additional wired and wireless sensors and sent to a web-based server and to users via email and SMS.

Fuel storage tanks and fuel trucks

4. Fuel monitoring in explosive areas

Explosive areas – fuel storage tanks, corporate gas stations, fuel trucks, mines and quarries. The safest way of fuel monitoring there is to use wireless fuel level sensors.

CANUp telematics gateway can receive signals from 10 wireless sensors over  BLE (Bluetooth 4.X, S7 Technology), which have explosion-safety certificate and can be operated in zones 0, 1 and 2.
